the power to embrace life
went out with my cousins che and ste today. drank coffee at bo's coffee club, checked out a few stores, ate at cafe bola, and watched the film "if only." it was cool just hanging out ^o^ listening to coldplay right now. good album. suits my current mood.
the film was good. plot wasn't that innovative. was a bit mushy. but i enjoyed it nonetheless as i'm a fan of romantic movies. the movie made me think about life's fleetingness and unpredictability. live life to the fullest is a common quote. however, it doesn't exactly say how we're supposed to do that. if we were to live life with that much passion and love, i think we could die of exhaustion. too much can be strangling, overbearing, even at the moment of death. for me, living to the fullest means living according to your principles, living life well. it isn't so much doing anything daring. in my case, it would be more of living without qualms.
i could say i'm a reserved person. i could say that i'm not that adventurous. but basically, i think i'm afraid of being judged. it's always at the back of my head. i worry about senseless things actually. i try not to cry in moviehouses (to keep a false bravado, appear detached). i don't put myself in situations where i could be embarassed. self-conscious might be correct term. yeah, i worry too much..and for the wrong reasons too. hehe. sometimes it's okay to be swept away, to let down your guard, to give in to emotions. life is about giving, loving, sacrificing, realizing, discovering. so, maybe it might be time to consciously make an effort to embrace life. to live without thinking too much, without rationalizing too much, without worrying about appearances. put God in the center and just be. of course, this might not be living life to the fullest but it's a start to living life without pretension. coz sometimes i can be snotty and haughtly and snobbish. so it's time to plant my feet firmly on the ground. at the end of the day, i just want to be able to look back and not feel ashamed of my actions.

one ineluctable sentence
from the book nothing to lose by tania kindersly:
"every life has at its central core one sentence, the distillation of all the contingency and chaos and randomness that lives are made of: all the hopes and fears and years of striving and failing, the moments of glad grace and the pedestrian routine."
is it truly possible to sum up life, to encapsulate all its intangibility and meaning in one sentence? a sentence that can capture the reason and purpose behind your existence...and would that sentence be elusive until just before death? what's weird about it is that in the book, the sentence that shapes the character's life isn't even her doing. she was involved in an accident, a victim of situational circumstances. so are we really in control of our lives? or do we simply react to the situations we find ourselves in? i'd say the former just because i think that humans are strong enough to rise above their givens. sadly, that one sentence can't be known until you look at everything in retrospect.
it's funny how lives are so driven by and hung up on wistfulness. everything seems to carry a hint of regret, a touch of longing, a desire to hold on to familiarity. sometimes, emotions get the better of us. we are able to experience life because of them but they are also the reason why we are so slow to advance, step forward, to leave our comfort area. petty emotions - passionate, uncontrollable, destructive...
