new start

i tendered my resignation this monday. it was liberating. i'm looking forward to facing new challenges and new experiences. aja aja!

i watched my girl this past week and found it surprisingly entertaining. the role of jasmine fits kim chiu to a T. it's nice to see the twists they added to give it a more pinoy feel. speaking of which, it's been a while since i've watched any korean dramas. maybe i should take a trip to divisoria one of these days hehe.

sex and the city, 21, and caregiver are showing! ni and i will probably watch two movies in a row tomorrow. happiness =D

dropped by the dessertcomesfirst.com website today and fell in love with the strawberry charlotte cake of sweet bella. it's so beautiful and it seems to be as good as it looks. yum!

押忍!闘え!応援団!

That's the power quote Cat left us with in her farewell and thank you message. It was her last day at work today. I'll miss her unique brand of sarcastic humor and the advice and encouragement she's offered me over the past year. Thanks Cat for making work easier for me and for sharing with me your bright and practical outlook in life. Continue to make cute bentos and don't forget to tell me of any interesting DS games you come to play =P You will be definitely be missed. Good luck! Gambatte!

In other news, my grandpa's feeling better now. He'll be discharged tomorrow =)

...I still haven't gotten around to writing my French poem. I managed to write Filipino poems in one hour before, so writing a poem in french shouldn't be that hard right?? Alors, je commence comment?

companionship

It's been a good weekend. Just got back home - went grocery shopping at S&R then had dinner at San Jacinto. The place brings back childhood memories for my mom =)

Mothers' Day was pretty slow-paced. Had breakfast at Lido, then headed off to the Heart Center to visit my granddad. He's still in the CCU (Coronary Care Unit) because the doctor noticed he had an irregular heartbeat after the angioplasty. It's kind of strange to see my granddad lying on a hospital bed 'cause he's always walking around or playing sports. He's not the type to stay idle. The doctors are going to monitor his heartbeat for a few more days. Hopefully, with the medication he's taking, he should be able to get discharged this coming week.

Seeing my grandma take care of my granddad these past few days has allowed me to witness her strength of character, patience, and dedication. I see my grandparents, and I realize that despite - or perhaps it is precisely because of the ups and downs and trials of their married life - that they have grown to share a certain connection, to have a subtle understanding of one another. I also feel that more than love, marriage is about companionship and sacrifice. It's about being there for the other through thick and thin.

Lynford and A-ku also dropped by to visit Angkong. Had fun chatting with Lynford about basketball camp. It was fun watching him play DS as he made lots of sound effects =D

Stayed at home the rest of the day. Listened to Yui's 3rd album - I Loved Yesterday - and Grand Corps Malade's album Midi20. We listened to "Midi20" - which is a song from the album of the same name - in French class the other day. GCM is a slam-mer. Slam is more poetry reading than music, as the music - mostly soft piano music - merely serves as an accompaniment to the poetry. It's a softer, more lyrical type of rap, I suppose. "Les voyages en train," "Midi20," and "Toucher l'instant" are my favorite tracks as of the moment. I have to listen to the tracks a number of times though before I can really make out the lyrics but so far so good. The prose is quite thought-provoking. As for Yui's album, the songs are actually her trademark style - a mix of pop rock and ballads. My favorite tracks are "Laugh Away," "Find Me," and "Namidairo."

self-doubt

I don't like the feeling of self-doubt. I don't like how it suddenly creeps in and gnaws at your mind. It challenges you, dares you to ask yourself if you're really as good as you think you are. It asks you to re-evaluate the things you thought you did well. It puts you down in a way, yet at the same time, it encourages you to strive more, to learn more, to be more.

I just don't like the lag time - the area you're in just before you reach the realization stage. It's during this time that you digest the negative comments and criticisms you've received. My brain stives to make sense of the jumble of contradictory thoughts and mixed emotions. I'll just allow myself to dwell in this stage for a day or two, until everything sinks in and I'm ready to move on to the next stage, which is ideally the self-improvement stage.

While not denying their positive attributes, I can't help but think that negative comments have a less-than-healthy effect on my fragile self-esteem.

In French class yesterday, we discussed nutrition and beauty. We talked about the elevated status of beauty in today's society. There was a French book that divided this idea of beauty into 3 concepts - beauty as a social marker (its possible effect in job interviews, etc), beauty as a stimulus for the recent focus on health and nutrition, and beauty as a result of the "short-term" view on life the current generation has. By short-term, it means that compared to our forefathers and parents, we don't really give much importance to the future nowadays. We don't have to strive as hard to earn a living, to make lives more comfortable for the next generation. We are reaping the fruits of that striving, and so we are more concerned with the "now," how to make the now more enjoyable and pleasurable. This thought just struck me, sort of made me think about how I lived life.

Sat down with Xin, Clement, and Alexis for lunch. It was an interesting conversation, with a jumble of French, English, and Mandarin. Clement's an engaging speaker and very friendly =)

Headed off to Greenbelt afterwards. Watched IronMan with Mic, Jerome, Malt, Rainier, Sherry, and Derrick. It's a good movie- a true blue Hollywood entertainment flick.

Have a good week, everyone =)
