Happy Birthday Charlene~!!! (*^o^*)/

yesterday was a semi-bad day. first, there was the physics exam which i kinda expected to flunk. Sadly, i might have fulfilled my less-than-optimistic expectations. oh well~ no use crying over spilled milk.
then, i got a text from aileen which cheered me up (thanx lin^^~).
psych thesis consultation went okay too. we have a direction already~!! ma'am even gave us donuts =D
...but still, i was tired (ironic, since there was a four-day respite). went to cherry to pick my mom up. bought some smoked cheese, bagels, and cream cheese (comfort food for the day). my mom told me i looked depressed. then she told me i shouldn't look so sad coz she'd get sad too (aww...) so then i realized that i shouldn't let my bad mood ruin everyone else's day so i tried to cheer up.
my mood did get better once i was un-bagging the things we bought from the supermarket and stocking them up - tidily - in the cupboards. it was therapeutic. so, if tidying things up is therapeutic for me, would that make me OC? haha. just a passing thought~ remembered this book i read where the girl would reorganize closets and cabinets and scrub kitchen floors and stuff when she was nervous or sad. maybe, it's just because you have something to do with your hands, makes you feel productive.

abpsy (abnormal psych). dra. ramos told us about this hypnotism class she had before wherein one of her students was able to dissociate completely. she went to lasalle greenhills and sat in in a class while the "Immaculate Concepcion" supposedly was her alter. it reminded me of what Sa-ko did before, when she visited the office in mind and spirit. It does sound cool but still, it's kind of scary. i don't think i'd be brave enough to volunteer to be "dissociated."~

somewhere in the middle
i had hoped that the mint moroccan tea latte would be able to soothe my somewhat frayed nerves. it had been a long day - one that was not exactly bad but not particularly good either.
shall we start with the good? The day started out relatively uneventful. On the way to Uno, the car seemed to be cloaked in a somber mood, events of the night before still left unresolved, untouched, and perhaps even unnoticed.
After Japanese class, we went to pick up Ni at CSB and proceeded to greenbelt, where we watched Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest. Had dinner at Bollywood first, where we enjoyed the dinner while admiring the traditional Indian costumes worn by the women in the film playing on the flatscreen tv. I love indian food ^^
The movie was awesome. The special effects, the sets, computer-generated stuff, costumes - everything just came together. I loved how it started out, with a drenched Elizabeth kneeling in front of an empty altar, the supposedly beautiful wedding preparations spoiled by the stormy weather - raindrops tinkling on unused china teacups. Johnny Depp turned in a brilliant performance as usual - i intend to wave at them as they pass by, oh bugger ^^ - I also loved the role of the seer. I felt that Will Turner’s character could have been developed more. He just seemed too brave and composed, a bit too unburdened by qualms. The storyline was pretty fluid. It was such an adventure, churning action-packed scene after action-packed scene. I was just drawn into it and in no time at all, the two hours plus had passed by. What surprises await, I wonder, in the third installment.
The bad part of my day? I don't know...I should be too old for teenage angst, wouldn't you think? These days, things seem to rest just beneath the surface - bubbling, waiting for some sort of release and escape. Confrontation would be good. It'd allow all the issues, conflicting thoughts and emotions to rise up to the surface; then, they could be dealt with properly. But then, i'm too much of a coward and i fear what confrontation might strike up. Choose the lesser of two evils. Maybe, hiding beneath that facade of indifference would be the lesser evil. Or...maybe i'm just saying that to justify my lack of initiative and my cowardliness. I wish that the communication lines were more open. Given the state now, communication and confrontation would just give rise to pandemonium~

recap
once again, the end of another week. and yes, sadly there's class on monday, which means the physics long exam will be pushing through. sir gave us two more sample problems today. i only have one word - stumped (>.<;)
looking back on the week:
found more related lit for thesis class. finding concepts to link to perceived control. so far, there's depression (though we might not use that), learned helplessness, and a few others. so this weekend is for lit reading. get ready, reading glasses ^^
in theo, we tackled the trend towards individualism and how it affects our faith, in other words, christianity in the modern world. it's been a recurring thought - how to put religion or faith into life. i think that the modern world sort of drives us further away from religion. we may engage in it but we never truly appreciate and embrace it. like fr. de castro said, the God we know is the "God of the gaps." He fills in when science and knowledge can offer no explanations~
i have a buddy already~!^^ i wasn't able to meet my original buddy quentin coz he didn't show up during the orientation. then yesterday, while hanging around in the asec room, alexia called and asked if i could tour a student around, and i did. her name's aida and she's from paris =) she seems cool and hopefully we'll be able to hang out more during the year.
i got to chat with B the other day. i miss her* she's going to japan in october. lucky lucky =)
i hope the filipinos in lebanon can get home safely. it must be awfully scary living in a place that's being bombed every few hours or so. sigh. then, there's the tsunami in indonesia. the lava spewing out of mt. mayon. the train bombings in india. so many different incidents happening all over the globe. sadly, none of them is good.
was able to catch an episode of veronica mars earlier. it's been sooo long since i watched the show. after watching it, i read the episode guide for season two coz i couldn't follow =( waiting for season 3~

neutral
from psychology, i've learned to listen to what others have to say, to be the listening board. that works for me coz i'm not really that much of a talker anyways. but listening is active as well. i process what's being told to me, and i try to interpret it. i try to see where the person is coming from.
these days, that's been hard to do. i've been listening to lots of different sides and though i'm not exactly being asked to choose a side, i know that i can't keep staying in limbo. can one be supportive of two sides and not manage to "betray" one side?
sigh. i just can't understand some things. i'm sad how certain things turn out. i'll just pray and hope things work out ^^

open mind
i have a tendency to distort thoughts.
i need to learn how to look at things from other perspectives.
sometimes, i'm just tired of keeping silent. i want to give you a piece of my mind. but i know that it'd lead to disastrous results.
everything has a history. freud has a good point about childhood experiences and unconscious conflicts. some people are just walking defense mechanisms.
i should condition myself to think of positive things. i'll drown in scorn if i don't.
it's not that i don't appreciate what you've done. it's just that sometimes i wish we had more say in things.
are humans even capable of loving unconditionally? i guess we can really just shut some people out of lives without another thought. such a cold scary thought.
i just wish everything would just fall back into place. but they never really do...like broken glass. you can glue the shattered pieces back together but the tiniest gust of wind and everything just falls apart again.
round and round and round the cycle goes.

意気消沈
classes were cancelled this afternoon, resulting in people shouting and jumping up and down at mvp ^^ i thought classes would be cancelled since morning, when the rain was just pelting down in huge drops. but no, i still had to drag my sleepy self to ateneo and attend the two-hour physics class, which was pretty cool. we discussed telekinesis (and why it was impossible), time machines and black holes. come to think of it, i guess physics is kinda cool.
i was grateful for the brief respite. i was sooo tired yesterday. minor burnout and it's only been what - three weeks? ha~! i need to build up my emotional stamina.
teruha's birthday today ^^ and i got to see neil too! he's going to the states next year. it seems that everyone's going places~

dinner at grappa's
trekked off to greenbelt again last night. mommy, nini, and aiai watched superman; while i watched lovewrecked. the movie was nothing new - funny though hackneyed. jonathan bennett's cute - didn't recognize him at first. turns out he's the guy from mean girls. hung out at powerbooks afterwards, bought Millions and Perfect. It seems that most of the books now are chick lit. Not that i don't enjoy it but i find that i've been looking for something with a bit more substance. Any suggestions?
Had dinner at Grappa's. My mom was a bit surprised coz it's not the typical restaurant we'd go to. She thought I was the one who wanted to eat there ^^ It was my dad though. I was kinda surprised too coz my dad prefers Chinese food and he says that he's not that used to Western food (pasta, pizza, etc). It was a good meal though - spinach and cheese pizza, carbonara, vegetable minestrone soup, and sea bass. I ate the vegetable side dish of the sea bass =)
nini and i went to music one while ai and my parents went to timezone. bought a couple of cds (kyla's beautiful days, ben jelen, and high school musical ^^ ai likes singing along). these days, i can't work without music. it just changes my mood, well it adjusts it appropriately.

got to chat with kanittha the other day. it's been a while. eric's in florence. now he must be somewhere in italy. i've also gotten around to listening the pimsleur italian cds i bought. so far, i've only listened to one cd. my EU prof said that EU interpreters earn 8000 euros per month 0.0 can you imagine?! wow. but you need to speak at least 3 european languages and you probably need to be european too.
